Dr. Jason Chandler Named Senior Associate AD For External Operations

CarrSports Assists Elon University in Executive Search

ELON, North Carolina. –  Elon University Director of Athletics Dave Blank has announced the hiring of Dr. Jason Chandler as the senior associate athletics director for external operations. Chandler will begin at Elon following a successful stint as the senior associate athletics director for external operations and revenue generation at Old Dominion University.

“We are excited that Jason is joining Elon Athletics to direct our external team,” Blank said. “He has an outstanding background in this profession and that experience, combined with his family connections in the Elon/Burlington area, make him a great fit for this position. I am looking forward to working with Jason and am confident that he will bring great leadership and vision to the external components of our department.”

Chandler has served at Old Dominion since 2012 and began serving on the athletics senior staff in 2015. In 2020, he was promoted to oversee all external operations units, including ticket sales and sponsorship sales. He oversaw a department of 16 full-time staff members, helped to navigate local and broadcast partnerships, and purchased all athletics advertising.

Chandler earned a NACMA gold medal in 2015-16 for Best New Revenue Generating Idea and a silver medal a year earlier in the same category.

Along with those duties, Chandler chaired the department’s Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) committee and served on the department’s Competitive Excellence Committee. He took part in university-wide committees, including Week of Welcome, Family Weekend, Homecoming, and Military and Veterans Affairs. Chandler is also an adjunct professor at Old Dominion in the department of human movement sciences.

The future is bright at Elon and I’m so excited to be a part of it.”

Prior to his time at Old Dominion, Chandler worked at Sam Houston State University from 2009-12. He began as the assistant athletic director for ticket sales and operations and was then the assistant athletic director for corporate partnerships and development from 2011-12.

Chandler began his career in intercollegiate athletics as the interim director of sports marketing at High Point University from 2008-09.

A member of LEAD1, Collegiate Athletics Leadership Symposium (CALS) and the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA), Chandler earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration and American history from the University of North Carolina in 2004. He received master’s degrees in business administration and sports administration & facility management from Ohio University in 2007 and 2008. Chandler earned his doctorate in higher education leadership from Sam Houston State in 2014.
