The intercollegiate athletics program is an integral part of the university striving to achieve the same standards of excellence in athletics that exist within academic programs. Sport programs are a vital function of the University at large.

This position is responsible for the successful planning, direction and administration of all aspects of the University’s NCAA Division I FCS Football Program.


  • Develop, organize, direct, advance, and administer a successful Division I FCS football program.
  • Plan, organize and conduct practice and training sessions (pre-season, season, off-season, spring, summer)
  • Oversee development and implementation of competitive strategies, including scouting
  • Development of student-athletes
  • Lead and motivate student-athletes and coaching staff to maximize their potential.
  • Recruit quality student-athletes.
  • Facilitation of the academic performance and success of student-athletes which includes retention and culminates with graduation.
  • Recognize students who achieve academic excellence.
  • Administrative duties, which may include but is not limited to ordering/selection of equipment and supplies, arranging practice and competitive facilities, team travel, assisting Director of Athletics with scheduling, and budget planning, management, and adherence.
  • Demonstrate knowledge, understanding, adherence, and commitment to all NCAA, Conference, State and Institutional rules and regulations.
  • Establish a team culture that ensures appropriate and acceptable student-athlete and staff behavior on and off the field.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills to lead a competitive Division I FCS football program. Remain current on all trends, methods, and innovations related to football and coaching.
  • Participate in program and departmental fundraising, public relations, and promotional efforts. Coordinate an outreach program that encourages student-athlete and sport program visibility in the University and local community. Conduct camps and clinics.
  • Supervise, prepare, and lead assigned coaching and operational staff.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.



  • Bachelor’s degree preferred


  • At least five (5) years of combined football coaching experience at the college or professional level is preferred.
  • Head Coaching experience


  • Required (may obtain and maintain immediately following hire): CPR/First Aid, NCAA Rules and Regulations certification

CarrSports Consulting will be assisting Lamar University in the search for a Senior Associate Athletics Director/CFO that will coordinate and supervise all aspects of the Athletics Department Business Office. Strict adherence to established NCAA, Southland Conference, Texas State University System and Lamar University rules and regulations is required. Responsible for preparing the annual proposed budget along with the Director of Athletics. The Senior Associate Athletics Director/CFO reports directly to the Director of Athletics and serves on the department’s Leadership and Management Teams. This position will also serve as a sport supervisor for selected teams and other direct reports as assigned.

The Senior Associate Athletics Director/CFO monitors budgets for all sports and departments. Submit invoices, requests to travel, contracts, etc. to various campus finance/travel departments. Responsible for distributing monthly budget status and annual status reports to all account managers. Supervises and evaluates ticket office personnel. Submit department revenue and expense data for the annual EADA Report and all NCAA Financial Reports. Serve as the primary contact for the annual NCAA Audit and provide all requested documentation for the auditors. Collect courtesy vehicle mileage logs and submit a quarterly report to the payroll office. Approve all deposits. Responsible for internal control mechanisms within the business and ticket office. Reviews ticket reconciliation reports for all athletics events. Ability to maintain accurate records concerning overall fiscal operations required. Ability to work cooperatively with staff members and supervisors required. Ability to tolerate flexible hours, nights and weekends required. Knowledge of NCAA rules required.

The Senior Associate Athletics Director/CFO is the liaison to outbound ticket sales partner, The Aspire Group. Additionally, the position is the liaison to the apparel contractor for all apparel related orders and issues.

The position will work closely with the Assistant Athletics Director for Operations to manage all facility and capital projects as well as game and events operations.

A successful Senior Associate Athletics Director/CFO will serve as a strategic and tactical senior leader within the department, possess a keen attention to detail, is data driven, and has excellent written and oral communication skills. The position will represent Lamar University Athletics on various campus committees and collaborate with campus partners surrounding the coordination of relevant projects and events.

The position will also assist with strategic planning and be responsible for drafting internal policies and procedures that enhance operations.

The position takes great pride in delivering exceptional customer assistance. To contribute toward operational productivity and efficiency, s/he will be a clearinghouse for many incoming requests to the department and is a liaison to a variety of stakeholders and interested parties.

Performs other duties and responsibilities as may be required as directed by the Director of Athletics.

Job Summary:

CarrSports Consulting is assisting Florida A&M University in the search for a Senior Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance, working under the daily supervision of the Chief Compliance and Ethics Officer with a dotted-line reporting to the Athletic Director.  The Senior Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance is charged with executing the daily management and operation of the athletics compliance office for Florida A & M University.  The individual will monitor and enforce matters related to NCAA, SWAC, and University rules and regulations; educate and interpret the applicable rules for staff, coaches, and student-athletes on various matters; and foster an atmosphere of compliance and institutional control with all internal and external constituents mitigating risk for the University and the Department.  The Senior Associate Director of Athletics must stay current with the ever-evolving NCAA environment to include initiatives such as Name, Image and Likeness, Transfer Portal, and the outcomes of the NCAA Transformation Committee.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:

  • Administer ongoing comprehensive rules and educational programs for the institution’s student-athletes, coaches, staff, faculty, administrative divisions of the University, and alumni/donor groups to ensure compliance with NCAA, SWAC and University rules and regulations at all times.
  • Provide accurate and timely NCAA, SWAC and University rules interpretations for coaches, staff, student-athletes and parents, alumni, donors, prospective student-athletes and parents, University personnel, community groups, and all other inquiries and requests.
  • Participate in the timely and accurate investigation, resolution and self-reporting of NCAA and SWAC rules violations, as they may occur.
  • In collaboration with the appropriate University personnel such as the Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR), Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance, Registrar, Academic Support of Student-Athletes, determine term-by-term eligibility for athletics aid, practice, and competition for all student-athletes in accordance with SWAC and NCAA rules.
  • Maintain documents such as athletic compliance office records, including interpretations, compliance actions, investigations, eligibility related documents, participation reports, financial aid and other historical data.
  • Complete and submit SWAC and NCAA annual reports, such the NCAA Division I Membership Requirements Certification, and NCAA Demographics and Sports Sponsorship Report. In conjunction with the appropriate campus office, provide the data for the Academic Progress Rates (APR), Federal Graduation and Graduation Success Rate reports.
  • Manages and maintains ARMS (or similar software programs) and social media sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, etc.
  • Annually updates the FAMU Athletics Compliance Policies and Procedures manual.
  • Shares responsibility of promoting an atmosphere of compliance while facilitating institutional control over athletics programs in order to ensure consistent adherence and behavior with NCAA, Conference, and University rules and regulations.
  • Oversees the management of initiatives that promote institutional and departmental culture of integrity and compliance as it relates to intercollegiate athletics.
  • Maintains an environment that promotes the highest level of integrity and demonstrates an unwavering commitment to the highest standards of ethical conduct.
  • Serve as the department’s liaison to the SWAC and NCAA for matters dealing with NCAA compliance. Attend and participate in relevant SWAC and NCAA (such as annual NCAA Regional Rules Seminars) meetings.
  • Represent the department on a variety of campus committees as deemed appropriate.
  • Supervise the Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance and Coordinator of Athletics Compliance.
  • Potential future opportunities for sports administration.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in the appropriate area of specialization and eight (8) years of related experience; or, Master’s Degree in an appropriate area of specialization and six (6) years of related experience.

  • Experience working with Division I football program preferred.
  • Familiarity of the financial aid and admission processes at a university level preferred.
  • Experience with ARMS (or similar software programs) and PeopleSoft (or similar enterprise personnel management platforms) preferred.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to interact with a multitude of constituents.
  • Ability to represent the University as required.


Pay Plan

This is an Administrative and Professional (A&P) position.
